My approach to directing is deeply rooted in my decades-long career as a professional actor. Having spent over 30 years on stage, I have had the privilege of working with a wide range of directors — some truly brilliant, others... let’s just say, educational in their own way. These experiences have shaped my understanding of what makes a rehearsal room thrive and how to bring out the best in a production.
At the heart of my directing philosophy is communication. A director’s job isn’t just to have a vision — it’s to articulate that vision in a way that inspires collaboration. I speak the language of actors, designers, technicians, and stage managers, ensuring that every member of the production team feels valued and heard. I believe that great theatre is built on trust, curiosity, and a willingness to play. Rehearsals should be rigorous but also full of discovery and joy. When artists feel supported and challenged in equal measure, the results are electric.
My approach is actor-focused, text-driven, and deeply invested in storytelling. Whether working on a contemporary drama, a biting comedy, or a classic text, I strive to create layered, authentic performances that resonate with audiences. I value precision in blocking, clarity in motivation, and the freedom for actors to take bold risks.
Above all, I aim to create an environment where creativity flourishes, where laughter is welcome, and where everyone—from the lead actor to the last light cue—feels like an integral part of the storytelling. Theatre, at its best, is a shared experience, and I consider it my job as a director to foster that sense of connection both on and off the stage
